BIO DISC
Bio Disc represents the first placental matrix allograft specifically designed for application as a protective barrier around the nucleus pulposus. Engineered to set a new standard in the management of annular tissue compromise, Bio Disc provides circumferential coverage of the nucleus pulposus and supports the integrity of the annulus fibrosus following injury or intervention. Comprised predominantly of type I and type III collagen, this placental-derived allograft is structurally homologous to the native annulus fibrosis, offering a biologically compatible solution for tissue covering and protection.

BIO DISC KEY FEATURES
Bio Disc can be transplanted using a minimally invasive technique that can be administered using a 22G spinal needle.
Bio Disc allogeneic allografts are sterile, single use and shelf stable at room temperature for 3 years. There is no need for cryopreservation. Simply reconstitute with normal saline and apply. Bio Disc solution streamlines workflow, reduces the possibility of contamination, and standardizes dose per disc application. Bio Disc does not require a specialty mixing device.
Bio Disc is allogenic and as such immune-privileged and naturally antimicrobial. Bio Disc dramatically reduces the adverse events of effusion and infection more commonly documented with autologous intra-disc allografts. Nuclei pulposi materials, particularly those derived from donors or xenografts, carry a higher risk profile and may provoke immune responses or inconsistent outcomes.
Bio Disc contains a comprehensive mix of cytokines, growth factors, extracellular matrix proteins, and growth differentiation factors. Together these components may down regulate inflammation, support intra-disc rehydration, and promote the micro-architectural scaffolding necessary for comprehensive collagenic differentiation both in the annulus fibrosis and the nucleus pulposus.

HOW BIO DISC WORKS

The natural aging process and accumulated wear and tear causes inevitable dehydration and collagen based degeneration of the intervertebral disc.

BIO DISC can be applied to the missing or damaged tissue of the intervertebral disc using a 22g spinal needle thus replacing missing or damaged tissue via a homologous use application.

Following administration, the growth factors and collagen building blocks in BIO DISC promote natural rehydration and extracellular matrix formation within the nucleus pulposus and annulus fibrosis.
PROCEDURE
The BIO DISC procedure is designed for patients who have suffered tissue loss in their lumbar intervertebral discs. This technique uses fluoroscopy imaging to precisely guide a spinal needle through Kambin’s safe triangle into the nucleus pulposus of the intervertebral disc. The BIO DISC allograft is then introduced into the targeted disc as a structural supplement to missing, damaged, or deranged collagen based tissue per homologous use.

DISC DEGENERATION
Disc degeneration usually starts in the nucleus pulposus (NP). With time, activity and even trauma, the NP may lose its capacity to retain water and nutrients, resulting in collapse of disc height, and compromise of the disc integrity to cushion and support the vertebral column. Characteristics of disc degeneration include diminished disc height, reduced intra-disc water content, and a decrease in the disc’s resilience to stress and load bearing.
